Hello world ..
What the hell is this place?! Some sort of marketplace where anyone can sell any audio related digital asset or something?! Are you trying to say that creators of audio are no longer forced to rely on big name brands and producers to make the tools and sounds we all use in our productions?!! Well .. yeah. Actually, that kinda is what I'm saying. It turns out that many of the best writers, producers, engineers, you-name-it .. aren't house hold names. Imagine that. The untapped reservoir of home studio hard drives is fed up and begging for market access. Tone Catcher exists to provide exactly that. Drum roll .. please ..
Introducing .. Tone Catcher .. again ..
Again? Let me provide a little background to clear up that statement. In the fall of 2019, Tone Catcher launched as a live session podcast where bands would play a short set, talk about all-things-tone .. recording, touring, writing, etc. and then make drum samples and/or guitar and bass Kemper profiles of the tones used in the live session. It was cool. It was fun. It was also losing money. When COVID rolled around in March of 2020, the project died almost instantly. No shows. No touring. No bands to record. Truth be told, it was a lot of work for a single person and I didn't have the time to commit to it. Just like a brood of cicadas in the deep south, Tone Catcher went into hiding.
Who am I, anyways? Let's start with this cool photo that was taken for the very first Tone Catcher episode in August of 2019.
That's me (Travis) and my dog (a.k.a. my literal best friend), Homer. Homer is a pure bred 12 yr. old tone dog. He likes loud drums and dissonant guitar parts. I haven't recorded, mixed, or written a single song without him since he came around in 2013. He's Tone Catcher Employee Number 1 and gets paid in free healthcare and unlimited frisbees. Until further notice, Tone Catcher will remain a 1 man, 1 dog shop.
In all seriousness, I rebuilt Tone Catcher because I think it should exist. I've always believed that you can learn anything from anyone. It's not always the smartest person in the room with the best ideas and the same thing goes for guitar tones or drum sounds. Sometimes, a small studio in the middle of nowhere will pump out the coolest sounding recordings. Tone Catcher is here for the lesser known to sit at the table next to all the big brands out there. "Democratize it!" they say. If you haven't already, don't forget to sign up for our mailing list and join the discord.
Thanks for being here.
